Dr. Martin L. LaVor
Marty LaVor has a wide-reaching background covering several careers. He was a teacher and department head in a public school; the Executive Director of a rehabilitation training program for mentally and physically challenged women; the Senior Professional for the Alabama Technical Assistance Corporation and; the Senior Federal Regional Grants Monitoring Officer for the Southeast Office of Economic Opportunity.
In the U.S. Congress he held several senior positions. He served as the Senior Professional for the House Education and Labor Committee; the Senior Professional for the U.S. Senate Committee on Aging and; the Senior Consultant for the U.S. House of Representatives Select Committee on Hunger.
After retiring from the Congress in 1980 he established The LaVor Group, specializing in political and public services. Later he turned a hobby into a career as a freelance photojournalist. He has published seven books and made over 950,000 photographs. His work is published in a variety of print media, from newspapers and magazines to political campaign literature and corporate reports. Marty has traveled extensively and has photographed in over 110 countries. Much of his international work has focused on under-developed countries experiencing famine, refugees, and related difficulties.
He earned his Doctorate in Special Education from the University of Alabama.
